Professional Bio


Stefanie Smith leads Stratex Consulting, a Manhattan-based executive consulting and coaching firm which assists business leaders to achieve key business goals. She works closely with executives, one-on-one or leading projects with their management and staff. Her coaching approach derives from decades of working with and for senior executives at public corporations, private companies, and non-profit institutions.

Ms. Smith has provided solutions for executives at Morgan Stanley, American Express, Grant Thornton, LLP, KPMG, WinStar Communications, Western Forge, Grant Associates, Direct Marketing Enterprises, and the ASPCA. The successful outcomes of her projects reflect a blend of analytical and qualitative perspectives.

Recent projects:

bulletCoached the business development executive of a public chemicals manufacturer in transitioning from investment banking and implementing a global M&A strategy.
bulletDeveloped strategic plans with the National Managing Partner, Strategic Relations of a leading international professional services firm. Plans to increase capital markets presence and academic relations were both implemented successfully in 2005 and 2006.
bulletIncreased operational profitability, service quality, training, and national sales effectiveness, for a niche business unit of a global investment bank. Coached president and direct reports weekly. Actively managed key projects while skills were developed and transferred.
bulletEvaluated internal communications programs for the CIO of a Fortune 100 financial services company. Designed an interactive survey and analyzed numerical and written responses from over 1100 participants to assess and improve strategic value.
bulletDeveloped an executive symposium on the capital markets impact of audit industry trends attended by national business, government and academic leaders. Researched trends and contracted academic experts to develop an audit industry model and analytic framework with implications for regulatory and corporate policies. The resulting symposium was run by the American Assembly and chaired by a former SEC Chairman.


Previously, as a consultant at Grant Thornton LLP, she advised middle market companies and public sector institutions. Projects included a comprehensive systems evaluation for a retail chain, controls improvement for numerous organizations, and warehouse process improvement for a national manufacturer. She also led a two- year operational restructuring of a $60 million government pension fund which included planning and implementation of a new actuarial database encompassing all employees and development of comprehensive procedures to ensure financial controls. At the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, she automated financial and operational processes and responded to information requests and questions from academics, financial services companies, and the public. At Mount Sinai Medical Center she researched and recommended operational and financial improvements for the CFO.

Ms. Smith received a degree in Romance Languages (Spanish, French) from Princeton University and an MBA in Finance and Public Policy Management from The Wharton School / London Business School. She speaks and writes professionally on management, M&A, and professional development. She has lectured at Columbia Business School and volunteers her expertise to medical, community development, and cultural organizations.
